Our Story

Why TDA Exists

Team Driving Academy was founded by Darren Bennett, a DVSA-approved driving instructor with 11 years’ experience teaching people to drive across Merseyside and Cheshire.

After more than a decade in the industry, Darren had seen first-hand how the bigger driving schools operate. Pupils get passed between instructors, lessons feel rushed or generic, and the personal touch that makes the difference between a good experience and a great one just isn’t there. He wanted to build something different — a driving school where every pupil gets a genuinely personalised experience from start to finish.

That’s the idea behind TDA. It’s deliberately small-scale, and that’s by design. By keeping things focused, we can make sure every instructor knows their area inside out, every pupil gets the time and attention they deserve, and nobody falls through the cracks. There’s no call centre, no being shuffled around, and no one-size-fits-all approach. When you book with TDA, you get a dedicated local instructor who’s invested in getting you through your test.

We now cover five areas across Merseyside and Cheshire — Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, Warrington, and Widnes — with a small team of hand-picked instructors who share the same values: thorough preparation, honest communication, and a real focus on results.

Darren is the person behind Team Driving Academy. With 11 years as a qualified ADI, he’s taught hundreds of pupils to drive across the region and built a reputation for structured, patient, and results-focused tuition.

He started TDA because he believed learners deserved a more personalised experience than the big franchises were offering. Rather than scaling up for the sake of it, Darren has focused on building a small, high-quality team of instructors who share his approach — thorough preparation, local expertise, and genuine care about getting every pupil to test standard.

No wasted lessons

Every hour of tuition has a purpose. We plan each lesson with specific objectives and track your progress properly. You’ll never feel like you’re just driving around aimlessly.

We won’t put you in for your test until you’re ready

Failing a test is expensive, stressful, and demoralising. We’d rather you take an extra week of preparation than rush to a test you’re not ready for. Equally, we won’t hold you back if you are ready.

Transparent pricing, always

Our prices are published clearly on the website. No surprise fees, no hidden charges, and no pressure to buy packages you don’t need.

Your instructor actually cares

This isn’t just a slogan. We hand-pick every instructor who joins TDA based on their teaching ability, their patience, and whether they genuinely want to help people pass. If they don’t meet that standard, they don’t join the team.
