You need a valid provisional driving licence. You can apply for one online at GOV.UK for £34 — it usually arrives within two weeks. You don’t need to have passed your theory test to start lessons, but you will need it before you can book your practical test.
Just fill in the form on our contact page or give us a call. We’ll have a quick chat about your experience level, which area you’re in, and what times suit you. We’ll then match you with your local instructor and get your first lesson booked — usually within a few days.
We currently cover five areas: Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, Warrington, and Widnes. Each area has a dedicated local instructor who knows the roads and test routes inside out. If you’re not sure whether we cover your postcode, just ask.
Absolutely. A large number of our pupils have never sat behind the wheel before their first lesson. Your instructor will start from the very basics — cockpit drill, moving off, stopping — and build from there at whatever pace suits you. There’s no expectation that you know anything on day one.
Yes. Your instructor will spend the first lesson assessing where you are and working out what you remember versus what needs refreshing. From there, they’ll build a plan that focuses on filling the gaps rather than going back to square one. Most returners are surprised at how much comes back after a session or two.
Lessons
Our standard lesson is a full 60 minutes of driving — not the 50-minute “hour” some schools offer. We also offer 2-hour lessons at £78, which are particularly useful in the later stages of learning when you want to practise full test-length drives and mock tests.
Yes, always. Consistency is one of our core principles. You’ll be matched with a dedicated local instructor who stays with you from your first lesson through to test day. They’ll know your strengths, your weak areas, and exactly where you are in your learning at all times.
Your instructor picks you up from home, work, or college — whichever is most convenient — and drops you back afterwards. Pick-up and drop-off time is not deducted from your lesson; you get the full hour (or two hours) of driving instruction.
It varies from person to person. The DVSA estimates an average of 45 hours of professional tuition combined with 22 hours of private practice. In reality, some pupils are test-ready in 20–25 hours, others need 50+. Your instructor will give you an honest assessment early on and keep you updated throughout.
We ask for 48 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged at the full lesson rate, as your instructor will have reserved that time for you. We understand emergencies happen, and we’ll always be reasonable about genuine unexpected situations.
You’ll learn in a modern, fully insured, dual-control car provided by your instructor. The dual controls allow your instructor to intervene if necessary, which is completely standard and means you’re safe even as a complete beginner. You’ll also sit your driving test in the same car you’ve been learning in.
Intensive Courses
Yes. Our 30 and 40-hour packages are specifically designed for beginners. You’ll start with the fundamentals and progress through to independent driving and test-standard manoeuvres. Many of our first-time learners pass through the intensive route with excellent results. See our intensive courses page for full details.
Typically 3 to 4 hours per day with breaks built in. This is enough to make meaningful progress without causing fatigue, which is counterproductive. Your instructor will adjust the schedule based on how you’re responding — some days you might do a bit more, others a bit less.
You don’t need it before starting, but you do need a valid theory test certificate to book your practical test. Ideally, pass your theory before or during the first week of your course so your practical test can be booked as close to the end of your course as possible.
Additional hours beyond your intensive package can be booked at the standard £42/hr weekly lesson rate. This is completely normal — everyone learns at a different pace. Your instructor will be upfront throughout about your progress and whether extra time is likely to be needed.
The content is the same — the difference is pace and scheduling. Intensive courses compress your learning into daily sessions over one to three weeks, while weekly lessons spread the same learning over several months at one or two hours per week. Intensive learners typically need fewer total hours because there’s less skill loss between sessions. Weekly lessons suit people who prefer a slower pace or can’t commit to full days. See our weekly lessons page for a side-by-side comparison.
Yes. Many pupils start with weekly lessons and then switch to a short intensive block in the final weeks before their test. This is a great way to combine steady learning with a focused push at the end. Your instructor can help you plan the right approach.
Pricing & Payment
Weekly lessons are £42 per hour, or £78 for a 2-hour lesson. A 10-hour block can be purchased for £395 (saving £25). Intensive courses start from £950 for 15 hours. Full pricing is on our prices page.
None at all. The prices on our website are exactly what you pay. There are no registration fees, admin charges, or fuel surcharges. The only additional costs are the DVSA test fees (theory test £23, practical test £62 weekday / £75 evening-weekend), which are paid directly to the government.
For weekly lessons, payment is made directly to your instructor at the start of each lesson — cash or bank transfer. For intensive courses and block bookings, payment is by bank transfer, typically a deposit to secure your dates followed by the balance before starting.
Yes. We can arrange a deposit to secure your dates followed by the remaining balance before your course begins. Get in touch and we’ll work out an arrangement that suits your budget.
No. Our prices are the same across Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, and Warrington. Same quality, same pricing, regardless of location.
The DVSA practical test fee is not included — you book and pay for this directly with DVSA. However, use of your instructor’s car for your test is included at no extra charge, and your instructor will drive you to the test centre and give you a warm-up session beforehand.
Your Driving Test
You book your practical test online through GOV.UK. You’ll need your provisional licence number and your theory test certificate number. Your instructor can advise on the best timing and help you find available slots at your nearest test centre.
Yes. Your instructor will be honest with you throughout about your progress. They won’t rush you into a test before you’re ready (failing is expensive and demoralising), and equally they won’t hold you back once you’re at the right standard. You’ll also complete mock tests under exam conditions so you can gauge your readiness for yourself.
Your instructor picks you up as normal, takes you for a warm-up drive around the test centre area, and drops you at the centre in good time. You sit your test in the same car you’ve been learning in. The test lasts approximately 40 minutes and includes an eyesight check, “show me tell me” questions, independent driving, and general driving with possible manoeuvres.
It happens, and it’s not the end of the world. Your instructor will go through the examiner’s feedback with you, identify what went wrong, and put together a focused plan to address those areas before your next attempt. Many pupils pass on their second attempt after targeted preparation. You can rebook your test as soon as you like (subject to DVSA availability).
You need a valid theory test certificate to book your practical driving test, but you don’t need to have passed it before starting lessons. We’d recommend starting your theory preparation early and aiming to pass it well before your practical test date. Your theory certificate is valid for two years from the date you pass.
Our instructors cover the following DVSA test centres: Norris Green and Garston (Liverpool), Upton and Heswall (Wirral), St Helens (Millbrook Business Park), and Warrington (Crab Lane). Each instructor trains you specifically on the routes used by examiners at your local centre. Visit your area page for full test centre details.
